Obrecht, Jacob [latinized as Obertus] (approximately 1451-1505) Netherlandish
composer who worked mainly in Flanders but also visited Italy and died of
plague there. Wrote masses, motets, and secular songs, showing some emotional
characteristics foreshadowing the expressive art of Josquin.
